What Is Worth Repainting?

You may not need to repaint every room before selling or renting. Some homes only need attention in a few well-used areas, while others would benefit from a more complete repaint. In some cases, extensive preparation may be necessary to bring the property into good condition

Start by looking at:

Marked walls in hallways and living areas.
Chipped doors, frames and skirting boards.
Ceilings with staining or visible repairs.

Weathered paintwork around the entrance and exterior.

Will Touch-Ups Be Enough?

Sometimes a small touch-up is suitable, but it isn’t always easy to blend new paint into an existing finish.

Even when the original colour is known, differences in sheen, ageing and application can leave a visible patch. A touch-up in the middle of a wall may stand out more than expected.

In those situations, repainting the wall from corner to corner can give a more consistent finish. We’ll assess what’s there and explain the options before you decide.

Preparation Is Part of the Work

The paint needs a properly prepared surface beneath it, whether you’re staying in the home or handing over the keys. Depending on the condition, that may involve cleaning, removing loose paint, filling minor damage, sanding and applying a suitable primer or sealer. Clean, dry surfaces are an essential starting point.

Some problems need attention before painting can proceed. If a ceiling has been stained by a leak, for example, the source of the moisture needs to be addressed and the surface allowed to dry before repainting. At Hearth, we allow for the preparation needed for the work we quote. A sale date or tenant handover doesn’t change what those surfaces require.

Have a Deadline? Speak With Us Early

If you’re working towards photography, a home open or a new tenancy, mention it when you first get in touch. We’ll assess the work, check our availability and explain what’s realistic. Our existing bookings, access, preparation and the drying time required between coats all affect the schedule.

An empty home can make access easier, but it still takes time to do the work properly. Speak with us before confirming other dates that depend on the painting being finished.

For exterior painting, we also need suitable weather and surface conditions. Rain, dampness, temperature and humidity can affect application and drying, so exterior dates may need to move.
