HEARTH PAINTING

Frequently asked questions
General

- 02Yes. Hearth Painting is properly registered, licensed, and insured to operate in Western Australia. In WA, painters must be registered with the government when carrying out painting work over a certain value (currently $1,000). This registration ensures the painter has met requirements around experience, financial responsibility, and professional standards. Unfortunately, some painters operate without registration and may legally only carry out very small jobs. Hiring an unregistered painter for larger work can expose homeowners to risk and may leave you with little protection if something goes wrong. If you ever want to check whether a painter is properly registered in Western Australia, you can search the public register through the government licensing authority: Building and Energy WA – Find a Registered Painter https://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/building-and-energy(https://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/building-and-energy) If you suspect someone is carrying out unregistered painting work above the legal limit, the same authority allows reports to be submitted. Choosing a registered, licensed, and insured painter helps ensure your project is completed professionally and within WA regulations.

- 04Yes. Hearth Painting is fully insured. Insurance is important because it protects both the homeowner and the painter. While professional painters take great care with your property, accidents can happen during any construction or maintenance work. Proper insurance ensures that if something unexpected occurs, you are protected and the issue can be resolved without risk to the homeowner. Working with an insured painter gives you peace of mind that you are hiring a professional business that takes responsibility for its work.
- 05It depends on the size and preparation required. A single room may take 1–2 days, while full interior repaints or new builds can take longer. We provide a clear timeline before starting. Quality painting isn’t just about applying paint — preparation, proper drying time between coats, and careful finishing all play an important role in achieving a long-lasting result. We always provide an estimated timeline before starting and keep you updated as the job progresses. If you have a deadline or need work completed by a certain date, please let us know early. We’ll always do our best to accommodate where possible. However, painting a full house at very short notice can be difficult to schedule, especially during busy periods. Our focus is always on delivering a high-quality finish rather than rushing the process, but we will always do our best to work with your timeframe where we can.

- 07It really depends on the space, the colour chosen, the lighting, and how the room is used. Generally speaking: • Matt – gives a soft, modern look and can help hide minor imperfections in walls. • Low sheen – a popular option for many interior walls as it offers a bit more durability and is easier to wipe down. • Semi-gloss or gloss – commonly used for doors, trims, and cabinetry because it’s tougher and cleans easily. Different homes, colours, and surfaces can suit different finishes, so we always talk it through with you to make sure the result looks right and performs well over time.

- 09Most of the time we organise the paint for you so you don’t have to worry about working out quantities or the right products. Once colours and finishes are confirmed, we take a small deposit and purchase the paint on your behalf from our suppliers. This ensures the correct products are used and everything is ready before the job starts. If you’d prefer to purchase the paint yourself, that’s also fine — we’re happy to advise on the exact products and amounts needed.

- 12Yes. Preparation is one of the most important parts of a professional paint job and it’s where a lot of the quality comes from. Before painting we inspect the surfaces and carry out the preparation needed, which may include filling holes or cracks, sanding rough areas, sealing stains, and priming surfaces where required. Good preparation helps the paint adhere properly, improves the final finish, and makes the paint job last much longer. Skipping these steps can lead to peeling, uneven surfaces, or paint failing earlier than it should. Every home is a little different, especially older homes, so we take the time to prepare the surfaces properly before applying the finish coats.
